WHAT IS THE MARKET PRICE FOR STUMPAGE IN MY AREA?
This is a very difficult question to answer because markets vary, not only from state to state, but also from county to county. Each stand of timber has characteristics that make it unique and only a trained eye can see some of the more subtle factors that can affect the value of a tract. If you are not aware of these subtleties, you may sell your timber too cheap or pass up a good price because you expect too much. Experience in the market is the only way to be sure you are getting a good price. A private landowner dealing directly with a professional buyer is at a disadvantage because he may sell timber once in fifteen or twenty years where the buyer has possibly made two or three deals in the last week.
